National Ocean Policy Listening Session, Anchorage

Last July, President Obama signed an Executive Order establishing a National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, Coasts, and Great Lakes. That Executive Order adopts the Final Recommendations of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force and directs Federal agencies to take the appropriate steps to implement them. The recommendations include the creation of a National Ocean Council (NOC) to strengthen ocean governance and coordination.  The Final Recommendations prioritize actions for the NOC to pursue, and call for a flexible framework for coastal and marine spatial planning to address conservation, economic activity, user conflict, and sustainable use of the ocean, our coasts and the Great Lakes.

Listening Sessions

The National Ocean Council is hosting regional public listening sessions about these efforts, and thereby provide opportunities for public input and comments as it develops the strategic action plans.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy (BOEMRE) is coordinating two meetings in Alaska that will be hosted by Eileen Sobeckin – the Department of the Interior’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks.
