Japanese Earthquake Triggers Tsunami in the Pacific; no damage in Alaska

Following an 8.9 magnitude earthquake in Japan on the morning of March 11, a tsunami advisory was issued for coastal areas of Alaska and Hawaii as well as other regions of the Pacific including California, Oregon and Washington. The largest wave registered in Alaska was 3.4 ft in Adak. No damage was reported in Alaskan communities.
